米国のドナルド・トランプ大統領は、連邦政府の多様性、公平性、包摂性(DEI)プログラムを終了する大統領令に署名しました。連邦政府全ての省庁に対し、民間企業のDEIに基づく取り組みの撲滅にも働きかけるよう指示し、マクドナルドやメタなど、皆さんにも身近な企業もこの政策に追随しています。
決して他人事ではありません。
皆さんの日常や将来にも少なからず影響するでしょう。
DEIって何?その重要性は?そして、なぜトランプ大統領はそれを撤廃したいのか、下記、皆さんが極力理解しやすい英文にまとめましたので、それを読解し、この課題について考えてみたいと思います。
What Is DEI?
DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. These are ideas that many schools, companies, and government offices in the United States use.
•Diversity means having people from different races, countries, genders, and backgrounds.
•Equity means giving fair chances to everyone, even if they come from different situations.
•Inclusion means making sure everyone feels welcome and important.
Why Is DEI Important?
Many people believe DEI helps make the world more fair.
It can help stop racism, sexism, and other unfair treatment. For example, DEI can help more women get jobs in science, or more people from different cultures feel safe in school.
Why Did Trump Ban DEI Training?
Trump claimed that DEI training was too political and made people feel guilty about history. He argued that teaching about race and discrimination caused division instead of unity. Because of this, he banned these programs in government agencies and private companies that received government funding
Business Effects
Many big companies followed this policy and reduced their diversity programs. Some examples include Goldman Sachs, Walmart, McDonald's, Meta, Apple, and IBM. These companies changed their hiring policies and reduced their focus on supporting diverse employees. Some removed programs that helped women and minorities get better jobs. Others stopped talking about diversity in their official training sessions.
