日頃、無意識に使用している仏教用語を英語で理解し、その影響を意識してみよう
引き続き、日々刻々と移り変わる、イランとイスラエルの抗争について、宗教という視点から英語でカバーしていきます。先週は、両国間の抗争の根底に、歴史的に宗教問題があることを、まず平易な英語（英検準2レベル）で把握しました。↓

このイシューを通し、いかに宗教が世界に影響を及ぼしているか、そして、宗教が形骸化している日本の現状をも振り返る機会としたいと思います。
本日は、日本の文化・伝統に大きな影響を与えている仏教について、その歴史をごく簡単に準2級レベルの英語でふりかえり、更に仏教思想を反映している二字熟語、四字熟語を英語でリストアップしてみましょう。
日常ではほぼ無縁と思える仏教が私たちの思考に与えている影響について意識してみましょう。↓
Buddhism came to Japan from China and Korea around the 6th century. It mixed with local religion called Shinto. Many people visit temples on New Year or after someone dies. Buddhism has influenced Japanese art, culture, and the way people think about life and death.
Buddhism started in India and spread to China and Korea. It came to Japan in the 6th century. Japanese leaders used Buddhist ideas to help rule the country. Temples were built, and Buddhism became part of education and government. It helped shape Japan’s early culture and society.
Prince Shotoku was an important Japanese leader in the 7th century. He supported Buddhism and wanted to make Japan a peaceful country. He built Horyuji, one of the oldest wooden temples in the world. It shows his strong belief in Buddhism and helped spread it across Japan.
無常 むじょう impermanence（Nothing stays the same forever）
煩悩 ぼんのう worldly desires（Desires that trouble the heart）
涅槃 ねはん Nirvana （The peace after escaping pain and desire）
輪廻 りんね reincarnation （Being born again after death）
悟り さとり enlightenment（True understanding of life and self）
因果 いんが cause and effect（Every action has a result）
布施 ふせ giving / charity (Giving to others without asking)
中道 ちゅうどうthe middle way (Not too hard, not too easy—balanced life)
生死 しょうじ life and death (The cycle of living and dying)
自業自得じごうじとく you reap what you sow(You get the result of your own actions)
四苦八苦（しくはっく）
人生で避けられない8つの苦しみを指します。
「四苦」は以下の4つ：
•生（しょう）…生まれる苦しみ
•老（ろう）…年を取る苦しみ
•病（びょう）…病気の苦しみ
•死（し）…死ぬことへの苦しみ
「八苦」は、上記の四つに加え、以下の4つを足したものです：
•愛別離苦（あいべつりく）…愛する人と別れる苦しみ
•怨憎会苦（おんぞうえく）…嫌いな人と会う苦しみ
•求不得苦（ぐふとくく）…欲しいものが手に入らない苦しみ
•五蘊盛苦（ごうんじょうく）…心と体の働きに苦しむこと

英語訳（やさしい表現）
"The Eight Sufferings" or "The Eight Kinds of Suffering"
In simple English, you can say:
"Shiku-hakku means all the hard things in life, like getting old, being sick, losing people, and not getting what you want."
英検準2級レベルで表現する場合：
"Shiku-hakku means the eight sufferings in life, such as birth, old age, sickness, and death. It also includes being apart from loved ones and not getting what we want."
