英検1級リーディング：解き方を変える
今回は英検1級の2次面接試験に向けて
僕が考え、実践した対策の概要です。
また、英検1級2次試験の世界観・出題意図も記します。
スピーキングが苦手な人向けです。
日常で英語を話す環境で生活している人や、
既に流暢なスピーキング能力を習得している
学習者には役に立ちません。
大前提ですが、英検は4技能を等しく測定する試験です。
僕は4技能の内でスピーキングが特に苦手です。
とは言え、
リスニング、リーディング、ライティングはできる。
などとは一生、口が裂けても言えませんが。
資格試験であればなんとか対応できるレベルではあります。
何度も挫折しながら英検1級1次に突破できるレベルに到達しました。
振り返ると、
常にリーディングやリスニング学習でいっぱいいっぱいでした。
スピーキングに投下する労力が捻出できていないのです。
日本人英語学習者の典型的モデルですね。
だからこそ、
英検1級2次面接対策には工夫が必要でした。
スピーチサンプルを気合で30本丸暗記！
的な戦略が昔からあります。
この戦略は否定できないです。
言葉の学習は暗記の比重が高いものですし。
結局、英語学習ではどの段階でも、
「暗記から逃げたら先に進まない」
という原理があるとは思います。
でも、僕にはスピーチサンプル丸暗記はムリです。
実際に試した結果、挫折しました。
では、暗記が苦手でスピーキングに不安を持っている
学習者が英検2次の対策としてやるべきことは何か。
先ずはどんな試験にも言えることですが、
過去問を分析したうえで、
評価基準・採点基準を確認することから始めるべきと考えます。
詳細は英検の公式ホームページを調べることが可能なので、
ここでは概要を確認します。
英検1級 2次面接試験 評価分野
Section 1Short Speech(10)
The ability to produce a short speech on a given topic,
organizing main points and supporting arguments
into a coherent message.
与えられたトピックについて主要な点とその根拠をまとめ、
首尾一貫したメッセージを組み立てる能力を評価

習得目標
リーダー（品格）の英語
二次試験では2分間のスピーチと、その内容への質問がなされます。
カギは英語の知識のみでなく、相手に伝える発信力と対応力。
世界で活躍できる人材の英語力を証明します。
この習得目標は「出題意図」でもあります。
政治・国際関係のトピックが高頻度で出題されることに関係します。
英語のロジックによる
critical thinking ability が求められるという理解で良いと思います。
critical thinking というのは英語的思考及びアカデミックの核心
を成す根本思想とも言える概念です。
学校でこの概念をキチンと習っていない人が多いと思います。
生徒さんに質問してきましたが皆、
「批判的に考えることです」
的な誤認をしています。

Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness.
Critical thinking can be seen as having two components:
1) a set of information and belief generating and processing skills, and
2) the habit, based on intellectual commitment, of using those skills to guide behavior.
It is thus to be contrasted with:
1) the mere acquisition and retention of information alone, because it involves a particular way in which information is sought and treated;
2) the mere possession of a set of skills, because it involves the continual use of them; and
3) the mere use of those skills ("as an exercise") without acceptance of their results.
2次面接対策のマインドセット
僕は、1次試験のライティングをクリアしている時点で、
2次合格の潜在スピーキング的能力がある
という仮説を立てました。
それにより「キソからの英会話習得」的発想を切り捨てて、
「潜在能力の顕在化」にフォーカスする事が可能になるためです。
仮説と言っても根拠はあります。
実際の英検1級合格率です。
2015年まで公表されていた数字を見ると、
英検1級合格率は受験生全体の約8％から約11％。
二次試験合格率は、
約60％から約66％程度。
ここから言えるのは、
一次試験合格者の半分以上は二次試験に合格する。
ただし、一次試験突破者は日本人の英語学習者として上級者です。
TOEICでスコアが 900 を超えていても通常、太刀打ちできません。
そのような精鋭達でも30％から40％程度の人が
不合格になるというのも事実です。
加えて、この数値には注意が必要です。
2次試験を複数回落ち続けてから合格する受験生
が存在しますが、その割合を考慮しない数値のはずです。
話はそう単純でもなく、突破のハードルはやはり険しいのです。
実は、英語教師でも英検1級所持者は稀です。
よって、簡単な試験だと言いたいわけではありません。
「ライティング能力」＝「潜在的スピーキング能力」
という仮定ですが、これは
「ライティング能力」≒「スピーキング能力」
ということになります。
≒を＝にするために必要なたった一つの事。
それは、スピードだと考えます。
10秒でトピック選定、50秒の準備時間で
2分間スピーチをすることに加えて、
質疑応答では、瞬発能力が問われることになります。
一方で、
ライティングでは「瞬発能力」が要求されないものの、
英語を論理的に組み立てて表現する
という能力が問われていて、
それはスピーキングでの要求と一致します。
だとしたら、
今までライティング対策で仕込んでいた
蓄積を磨き上げる（潜在能力を顕在化する）
ことに力点を置くのが合理的戦略と考えたのです。
なお、スピーキングでは評価に「発音」が加わること
も考慮が必要です。
でも、あまり神経質になると弊害があると思います。
録音した自分の発音を聞いて、ある程度までは修正する。
完璧主義を捨て、ビクビクせず堂々と、
ややゆっくりと話す戦略が僕には現実的でした。
ここから、僕が実践した具体的な対策です。
ライティング対策で書き溜めたノートの
見直し作業を徹底しました。
様々なトピックに対して瞬時に2個の理由
を絞り出せるように何度もセルフチェックします。
使用教材はメインが、
英検1級 面接大特訓 Jリサーチ 上田一三編著
この本はトピックのサンプルスピーチの後に、
質疑応答もサンプルで示されています。
アーギュメントの立て方、論理的レスポンスの実例が
とても参考になりました。
CDとダウンロード音源も付いていて有難かったです。
これ以外に音源を徹底活用したのが、
英作文問題 完全制覇 Japantimes
この書籍の前半パート「コンテンツブロック」です。
僕はこの部分は1次試験ではなく、2次対策で活用しました。
コンテンツブロックの音声を身体に刻み込む感じです。
上田一三先生の書籍に、過去問題 頻出ランキング
が円チャートで示されていて、トピックとしては、
政治・国際関係：18％
経済・ビジネス：16％
の頻度が高いと分かります。
試験本番では5つのトピックから1個を選びます。
5つの中に上記の2トピックのどちらかが入る可能性が高い
と判断できます。
だから、この2分野の学習には重点を置きました。
逆に比重を軽くしたのが、
「ジェンダー・家庭」
「医学・健康」
それぞれ7％、6％であったことと、
スピーチの後の試験管からのツッコミ対応が
僕には難しいという判断からです。
念のため。「捨てた」というわけではないです。
スピーチの後の質疑応答に耐えきれる得意ジャンルを
作るという発想です。
スピーチのトピックに関連しない内容の質問もありえると
いう知識があったので慎重を期し、軽く準備はしました。
旺文社の過去問が直近2冊・12回分あったので、
まずはトピックを精査し、抽象化して大きく捉えていきました。
出題されたトピックの外観して全体像を捉えておくことで、
対策がブレなくなると考えたからです。
ここでも過去に遡ってトピック出題実例を列挙します。
英検1級2次試験の世界観、全体像を捉える目的で俯瞰してください。
そのうえで、出題意図を自分の言葉でまとめれるでしょうか。
最後に「まとめ」欄で僕自身の見解を示しました。
ついでに、
出題者がネタ切れに苦慮しつつ過去問を表現、質問の角度を変えて
使いまわしをしている様子も垣間見えると思います。
