1．相談の内容
A社は農業装置の部品について、新しいデザインを考案しました。その際、知的財産で保護したいと考え、弊所にご相談されました。
2．解決策
今回のケースでは、農業装置の部品について、特徴的な部分があり、それが繰り返し連続していることから、特徴的な部分を部分意匠として、申請することが適切であることをお伝えしました。さらに、図面の作成を工夫することにより、繰り返しの特定パターンを保護することが可能であることをお伝えしました。
部分意匠とは、全体意匠とは異なり、特定の部分だけを保護することが可能です。これは、全体デザインが似ていなくても、特徴的な部分が模倣された場合に、その部分だけを守ることができるという利点があります。
また、形状や模様が繰り返される物品については、「意匠登録出願の願書及び図面等の記載の手引き」に詳細が記載されています。

つまり、特定の形状や模様が連続する物体（例えば、棒、線、板、管など）については、その形や模様が続いている部分だけを図示し、意匠登録の申請をすれば、長さに制限をかけることなく、登録申請ができるということを示しています。
ここで重要なのは、形状や模様が何度も繰り返されることが分かるように「連続する状態が明らかに分かる部分」を実線で描き、境界を一点鎖線、その他を点線で描くことです。そうすることで、全体の形状や模様を理解することができ、その物品全体が同じパターンになっていることが分かります。
3．結論

Designs with continuous shapes and patterns (partial designs)
1. Content of consultation
Company A devised a new design for a component of an agricultural device. Company A wanted to protect it with intellectual property, and consulted with us.
2.Solution
In this case, we advised the client that it would be appropriate to file an application for a partial design for a part of an agricultural device because the part had a distinctive feature and the feature was repeated and continuous. Furthermore, we informed that it is possible to protect the repetitive specific pattern by devising the drawing.
A partial design differs from an overall design in that it is possible to protect only certain parts of the design. This has the advantage that even if the overall design is not similar, if a distinctive part is imitated, only that part can be protected.

In other words, for an object with a specific shape or pattern that is continuous (e.g., bar, line, plate, tube, etc.), an application for registration can be filed without any limitation on the length if only the part of the shape or pattern that is continuous is illustrated and an application for design registration is filed.
What is important here is to draw the "portions where the continuous state is clearly visible" with solid lines, the boundary with a single dotted line, and the others with dotted lines, so that the shape or pattern can be seen to repeat itself over and over again. By doing so, it is possible to understand the overall shape and pattern, and that the entire object has the same pattern.
3. Conclusion
