初めまして!T.B.C.J.よりご挨拶
Unlike vacations abroad, in Japan, only schools take a break for whole August, the rest of society continues as usual. Therefore, the tradition of families only being able to take time off during the Obon holiday remains unchanged, both in the past and today (in most cases).
This year, a typhoon hit during the half of the Obon holiday (and there are still strong winds and rain now), so many families likely had a difficult time during their short vacation.
Summer vacation at international schools in Japan typically runs from mid-June to the end of August. The exact dates vary by school, but many international schools align their summer breaks with the Western school calendar, making their vacations generally longer than those of public schools, which usually have a break from late July to the end of August.
When parents work according to a Japanese company’s schedule or the Japanese calendar, how their children spend the vacation period is an important issue at any time.
Even if the school has an after-school program, in most cases few students remain, and the caregivers are limited, making it difficult to create an environment suitable for foreign children.
Recently, in urban areas, companies providing after-school programs have been increasing, and more of them are now able to accommodate foreign children.
Even if they don't advertise as international.
